About My Project.
As a society, we need to be more informed on the issue of deforestation. In recent years the problem is being neglected, which will severely affect us in the future. Deforestation should be considered as it directly affects climate change, implicating the life of future generations, biodiversity, and natural environments.
My design brief for my project was to:
Design a piece of wooden furniture that brings awareness of deforestation whilst providing the functional and aesthetic needs that existing furniture provides.
Through my various research and testing phases of the potential final project, I decided to create a piece of furniture which is communicative in portraying the issue and will be made using sustainable practices.
Inspired by the impact of forest fires, the ‘burn’ design resembles the trees being burnt by human/natural induced fires. It conveys the disastrous effects that fires have on forests and gives the user insight of the severity of them. The QR code implemented on my final chair design, provides as an educational source providing information on the issue to the user.
My product provides functional and aesthetic needs whilst directly raising awareness to the user which aims to encourage sustainable purchases and allows them to become more informed of how their own decisions can effect deforestation.
